Tilo Schnabel and Sebastian Büssing, both of whom also work independently as Independent Bottlers, have teamed up for The Liquid Madness and are looking for extraordinary whiskeys together, which they offer to friends of the special in the series. THE LIQUID MADNESS, the "Finders of Brillant Booze", have ended up on the shores of the eastern Mediterranean on their journey through the depths of the whiskey world. They finally found what they were looking for in the lively metropolis of Tel Aviv. There, the likeable innovators of the M&H Distillery have been producing the first Israeli single malt whiskey since 2015 - and the result convinced the creators of THE LIQUID MADNESS all along the line! THE LIQUID MADNESS is the 'crazy lovechild' of two characters who have become an integral part of the German whiskey scene: Tilo Schnabel aka THE CASKHOUND and the SPIRITS ALCHEMIST Sebastian Büssing. With them, the curious look beyond the liquid edge of the nose is almost program - and let the two quickly discover and appreciate the "water of life" from the Levant. The fact that the single malt they selected is not exactly a Methuselah at almost 4 years old does not matter to the dynamic whiskey duo: "Well, why should I? The climate in Israel hardly allows for a longer maturing period - but it also leads to a complexity and abundance of aromas that you would not expect. Why did we bottle it?
Because it plays with expectations, breaks them and surprises them... and it's damn delicious at the same time! Every sip reflects that certain little bit of "magic" that conjures up something unique from distillate, barrel and terroir!
Tradition meets terroir
The Mediterranean climate of Israel, characterized by hot sunny days and cool nights, and the special terroir bring a spicy and unique taste to the Israeli wine - which is clearly reflected in the full aging of the single malt in ex-Cabernet Sauvignon casks made from French oak. M&H Master Distiller Tomer Goren specially selected these barrels from the renowned Bravado Boutique Vinery in the mountains around Jerusalem for aging because they represent region and terroir for him and are a perfect canvas on which the distillate, which is traditionally produced in a pot still, unfolds and can win a special abundance of aromas ...
Nose: the scent of freshly ground spices and powerful wine aromas, followed by hazelnut, dates, figs and caramel Mouth: the spiciness of gingerbread & cinnamon meets the intense sweetness of candied red fruit - wrapped in an oily-velvety mouthfeel, then hints of smoke and tannins from the aging in the red wine cask become noticeable Finish: quite long, the mixture of fruitiness and spices slowly fades and is then replaced by oak spice, tannins and the pleasant dryness of a full-bodied red wine...
